Trend Alert: Reverse Ombre

Reverse Ombre

Hey Hey....There might be a new trend for the summer - looks just like the old trend from last summer - right side up (in my opinion). 

Ombre: 

Definition: The hair world borrowed the term 'Ombre' from the french word meaning shaded or shading. Ombre hair color is generally darker at the roots through the mid-shaft and then gradually gets lighter from the mid-shaft to the ends. It is usually achieved using a balayage technique and is ideal for clients looking for a low-maintenance style.

Old Ombre was pretty - on some clients.  But, if it wasn't blended just right or styled just right, it mostly looked unkept or dirty.  

In addition, to acheive the best results, the ends were mercilessly bleached to a very pale blonde.  Most client's hair couldn't withstand this kind of torture.  If it didn't break off from the coloring, then it was sure to lose it's battle from the from the curling iron.

As you can see with Ms. Conrad, here.  The battle has obviously been lost.  She has a very nice set of extentions.  How can you tell? See the little chunk of hair around her neck that is shorter than the rest.  That hair is coming from under her hair style, where her hair should be the longest. Thank you Lauren, for giving girls false hope that they can bleach the holy crap out of their hair and it will still be all shiny and pretty like nothing ever happend.

Anyway.... There are very pretty examples of Ombre, just few and far between. SJP has obviously nailed it.

What I like about the reversed Ombre - it's easier on the ends and there is more brightness around the eyes.

What I don't like - this, too, will be taken to extremes.   I'm sure we'll be seeing platinum, broken bangs with witch-like black ends. (yay)

Brooklyn Decker is known for taking it off—after all, she is a Sports Illustratedswimsuit model—but she and L’Oréal Professionnel Celebrity Stylist Ted Gibson made a statement by taking off 10 inches of her locks and kicking off a new trend: the demi bob. “I wanted her hair to be sexy, sophisticated, downtown and super modern,” Ted says. To create the look, Ted cut Brooklyn’s hair above her shoulders to create a shape that is slightly longer in the front. Next, he cut a few shorter layers at the top to add a hint of sexy bedhead. To style it into swingy waves, Ted suggests spritzing a volumizing spray at the roots of towel-dried hair and blowing it dry with a large round brush. Then, apply Ted Gibson Tame It Shine Lotion and wrap 2-inch sections of hair around a large-barrel curling iron, tweaking with your fingers to style. Finally, finish with a lightweight hairspray. “This look is universal,” Ted says, “It works on girls with fuller faces and shorter necks to girls who look like supermodels.”

I think the color and cut are PERFECT! 

It is a shame that young girls are so attached to their long hair.  Although, it does make the ones who are willing to chop it - stand out even more.

This photo also gives a great example of how light hair and dark eyebrows can work.
